Tokyo based Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) has made the formal announcement on 9th January to set up the second line of 800,000 tpa purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Haldia (West Bengal, India) with an investment of Rs 1,665 crore (US$ 370 million). MCC runs the Indian PTA operation

| through MCC PTA India Pvt Ltd and plan to start the construction work towards the middle of the year. This new plant would be largest single line capable of producing best quality PTA in the world by June 2008 and employ 1000 people. MCC PTA's first plant of 470,000 tons PTA per annum was set up with US$ 380 million investment in Haldia between 1997 and 2000.
