People in Ranchi will find a variety of khadi garments at a 15-day ‘khadi Fair’, which was inaugurated here by Chief Minister Mr. Arjun Munda at Zilla School. khadi industry seems to be changing the fashion statement of Generation-Next, as it has brought in its treasury a wide range of apparels, which define the current trends in the choice of garments. The fair is well stocked with hand-woven khadi garments made at the various branches of khadi Gram Industries, located at different parts of the country. There are about 150 stalls offering discounts up to 30 percent on khadi garments. Mr. Abhay Kumar, an employee of khadi Gram Udyog Samiti, Ranchi, said “the industry was producing garments keeping in tune with the latest fashion trends and the taste of the younger generation”. He added that, “This time, we have brought readymade garments such as shirts made out of khadi silk and khadi cotton, available for anything between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500,”. | designer neckties in cotton and khadi silk, adorned with hand embroidery. Mr. Jai Choudhary, stall owner of another khadi store from Deoghar, said “they have brought silk khadi kurtis for both men and women, which will come in the range of Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,500.” Apart from that, Murshidabad khadi silk sarees, with intricate patterns and designs on them, are also available at the fair. khadi merchants from different parts of the country, including Bihar, Bengal, Orissa, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Uttranchal and Uttar Pradesh, have put up stalls at the exhibition. At the fair, there is also a wide range of herbal cosmetic products such as shampoos, skincare creams and herbal face packs. In the next 15 days, the fair organisers will also present some cultural programmes, including the state folk dance, plays and ghazal shows. Besides, there would also be folk dances of North India and fashion shows, in which models will sport khadi garments. Song and drama division, government of India, will also be present for the cultural programmes at the fair.
