Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Mr. Clement Rohee and Mr. Shen Qing, Chinese ambassador to Guyana yesterday signed the Certificate of Handing Over for the donation of equipment and raw materials of G & C Sanata Company Inc. The ceremony was held at the ministry's office at the Takuba Lodge. After a joint evaluation was performed by a technical team which comprised representatives from both the Guyanese and the Chinese sides, the equipment and raw materials at G & C Sanata Company Inc were handed over to the Government of Guyana. Mr. Qing said that the Chinese have completed their mission according to the agreement. Mr. Qing also stated that a joint commission of economics and trade would be held in mid February to discuss further trade agreements between the two countries. Mr. Qing added, “There has been US$ 35 million foreign trade between the two countries.” The technical team on the Guyanese side was headed by Mr. Winston Brassington, Executive Director of the National Industrial and Commercial

| Investments Ltd (NICIL). While addressing Mr. Brassington stated that the Certificate of Handing Over for equipment and raw materials of G & C Sanata Textiles has four parts. The first part deals with equipment installation, the second looks at spares, the third is inventory and the fourth is technical. “What we have is a working establishment that would generate employment, investment and production,” said Mr. Brassington. According to Mr. Rohee, Guyana would now be participating in the trading of textiles and there is a secure market of more than US$8M in the Caricom Single Market. The Exchange of Notes to facilitate the formal handing over of G&C Sanata Textiles Company Inc was signed between Mr. Manzoor Nadir, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and Mr. Liao Xiaoqi, Assistant Minister of Commerce of China during the Working Visit of Prime Minister Mr. Samuel Hinds to the People's Republic of China in July 2005. Invitations are open for investors, both foreign and local, to operate the Sanata Textile Company. Sanata had been set up several decades ago and has experienced mixed fortunes.
