The Union Government is not in favour of withdrawing the Textile Committee cess as large amounts of cess are yet to be recovered, Shankarsinh Vaghela, Union Textiles Minister, said here on Wednesday.
Addressing the annual Economic Editor's Conference organised by the Press Information Bureau, Mr. Vaghela said, "Many big players have yet to pay their cess fully. They have to be recovered first before we can think of withdrawing it.''

He said the Centre was considering two more NIFTs, one in Kerala and the other in Uttar Pradesh. The exact locations would be decided soon.
Mr. Vaghela said textile exports had made a quantum jump since the removal of quotas from January 1, particularly to the U.S. and Europe.
