According to the Madurai Textile Exporters' Association (META), India may face shortage of raw cotton in the domestic market, if the present unrestricted raw cotton exports are not curbed. According to the META Secretary Mr.K P S Selvaraj, price

fluctuations in the domestic market could also be the likely outcome of this situation. Mr. Selvaraj stated that government should focus on increasing the domestic consumption of fiber and restrict its export volumes. This move could help to increase country's foreign exchange earnings by exporting value-added products.
