Indian Oil Corp. Ltd.'s (IOC) petrochemical project in Panipat which is also to manufacture PTA as well is running behind schedule by almost two months according to the reports available. According to a company spokesman, IOC's plan to commission the Paraxylene and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant has been delayed due minor problem in the paraxylene unit though both the plants are mechanically completed. | feedstock for PTA, the company now is planning to import 50,000 tons of paraxylene to start the PTA plant by April. IOC's first PTA project has a capacity of producing 600,000 tpa and product will be marketed to both domestic and overseas buyers. The company has already reached an agreement with JBF Industries which is a large domestic consumer of PTA and negotiating with other buyers as well. IOC would also export 150,000 tons of PTA to Pakistan once the plant reaches on spec quality.
