Claiming that the increasing exports of cotton yarn is creating pressure on the raw material prices in the domestic market, the Pakistani textile exporters have requested the government to put a complete ban on the cotton yarn exports. According to Rana Javed Akhtar, the senior vice-chairman and Sh Muhammad Yousaf, the vice-chairman of the All Pakistan Cloth Exporters’ Association (APCEA), the price rise has been making the Pakistani textile exports

It has been reported that the textile raw material prices in the local markets have increased by almost 20-25 percent in cotton yarn varieties, and nearly 20 percent with respect to polyester cotton. In September 2003, the average price of 20s cotton yarn was Rs 507/- per bundle, which has mounted to Rs 607 per bundle in March 2004. Similarly, while the price of 22s cotton jumped from Rs 517/- to Rs. 645/- per bundle in the same period, the price of polyester cotton yarn ascended 25 percent.
