Indian cashmere has become increasingly short in supply over the years, as the number of sheep has not grown much. The country's total wool consumption is pegged at 86.3 mkg out of which 27.9 mkg is in apparel and 58.4 mn kg in non-apparel. India imports about 28.6 mn kg from Australia and imports have been growing every year.
