Mysore silk will soon obtain the intellectual property safeguard in form of the Geographical Identification, commonly known as the ‘GI’ mark. This mark is an identifier of the area of origin of the product, and is used to let customers know that its unique quality is attributable to a particular territory. Adding the GI tag to Mysore silk is expected to guard its reputation from silk producers worldwide. It is also

It is interesting to note that so far only eight Indian commodities have acquired the GI stamp, Mysore silk being the ninth one. The other commodities to flaunt this mark are Darjeeling Tea, Pochampalli Sarees, Salem Fabric, Goa Fenny, Solapur Fabric, Pavitra Modaram (Ring) from Payyanur (Kerala), Chanderi silks and Aranmulai Kannadi (Mirror) from Kerala.
