A series of textile products made of bamboo charcoal was lunched by the MOEA, which the ministry says can make Taiwan's textile industry more competitive in the world market. Mr. Ho Mei-yueh Minister for MOEA in a ceremony held in Taipei as an official spokespersons of the bamboo charcoal products said, “Taiwan cannot remain in the state of producing low-cost textiles; we must follow other advanced countries in pursuing higher cost textiles.” It took almost two years to develop the technology of bamboo charcoal textile with the help of the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI)

The charcoal is then finely graded and inserted into fibers to create a new form of textile. According to Mr. Ho, “The development of bamboo charcoal is a revolution in the textile industry.” “The trademark Phyllotex indicates that the product has been completely manufactured in Taiwan using bamboo charcoal,” he added.
Although bamboo charcoal products can be found in the market today, all of them are imported and Taiwan companies have yet to manufacture the products, until now.
